ESCONDIDO ROOTS
Project: Escondido Roots
Location: Escondido, CA – 2025
Artist: Sasha Primo + Gloria Favela Rocha
Commissioner: Escondido Community Foundation
Partners: California Center for the Arts
Dimensons: 70ft w x 20ft h
Concept: The mural explores Escondido’s agricultural history in the mid-20th century, when vineyards, orchards, and open fields shaped life in the valley. It combines rural landscapes with an early street scene of historic local businesses, while Lake Hodges Dam in the background highlights the importance of water in the region. Warm sunset light and small details of local wildlife create a layered image that connects Escondido’s past, landscape, and evolving identity. Located beside the Nordahl Road SPRINTER Station, the mural will be highly visible to riders arriving and departing the platform.
