Description
These artworks are part of the Break Jump series.
Acrylics, oil, pastel and mixed media on canvas. 40 x 60 cm each.
They were inspired by an African tradition from the Kenya Maasai tribe, called Adumu. In this tradition, when kids grow to a certain age they gather to do a series of activities. There is a special one where they jump as high as they can, while the other persons sing and encourage each other. Due to their long clothing you can only see their faces and hands.
In this series I played with the contrast between the realism of these elements and the geometrical breakdown of their clothing. This meant a metaphorical break with the style I was working on, mixing figuration to birth new forms and colors.
The price is 250 usd each, or 900 usd for the four of them.
