RESILIENCE – ESCONDIDO CREEK TRAIL MURAL
Project: Resilience
Location: Escondido, CA – 2025
Artist: Sasha Primo
Commissioner: Escondido Community Foundation
Concept: ‘Resilience’ is a community-based public art mural that was created through a partnership of three organizations: The City of Escondido (California, USA), the Escondido Community Foundation, and the Center for the Arts, Escondido. This piece was installed along the Escondido Creek Trail—an underused corridor currently undergoing long-term urban and ecological transformation. The artwork was created by the Argentinian artist Sasha Primo through nearly a year of participatory work (site visits, community workshops, co-design), weaving local biodiversity, Latinx identity, collective memory, and cultural belonging into a shared narrative.
At the heart of the artwork, a Latinx family figure affirms intergenerational care and the relevance of the Latinx community in shaping identity in the area of Escondido and San Diego County. Technically, the mural was created using latex and aerosol paints on concrete. It spans approximately 50 feet in length, reaching up to 20 feet in height on the main wall and 15 feet on each side of the creek slopes. The color palette combines warm and earthy tones with vibrant pastels — including shades of turquoise and pink suggested by local residents — to reflect the festive spirit of the community.
