The mural of Dorothy Height, a beloved civil rights leader and advocate for the rights of African American women.

Dorothy lived in Southwest Washington from 1983 until her passing and was a very important figure in an institution called the National Council of Negro Women, which is still active just a few blocks from the mural.

The artwork celebrates the empowerment of local diversity, collective memories, and the resilience of its people. It also received incredible support from the public; many people recognized the portrait, applauded as they passed by, and several had even met Dorothy personally.

The artwork is located under the highway at 4th St SW, three blocks from the White House.
